Crossover Wiring Configuration – The crossover wiring configuration is intended for converting a ‘Straight Through’ cable to a ‘Cross-over’ cable, or vice versa. When connecting to a telephone outlet, a ‘Straight Through’ cable is usually required, though many analogue modems are supplied with ‘Cross-Over’ cable. This is fine if you’re plugging into certain types of internal network, but if you wish to connect to a standard domestic phone line, you’ll need one of these adapters!
Used For – Used for connecting an RJ11 networking cable to a standard BT phone socket. The RJ11 connector is commonly found on fax machines, analogue dial-up modems and US-made telephones. The signals carried by the cables are identical to that of a standard telephone. Only the connector used to plug into the socket is a different shape.
Installation – Simply connect your RJ11 cable into the back of the adapter, and then plug the adapter into your phone socket – that’s it! The adapter requires no configuration or power supply to operate.
